Circulation Policies
- A student must have a photo I.D. to take materials out of the Library.
- All books circulate for two weeks and may be renewed twice.
- All other items circulate for one week.
- Item limits are as follows:
- Books--5
- Magazines--5 (Current issues may not be checked out.)
- CD's--2
- DVD's--2
- Videos--2
- All supplies circulate for the day and a valid Photo ID must be left at the Circulation Desk
- Reference materials may be used in the Library only.
- Textbooks:
- Students may use textbooks in the Library only. They must leave their student ID at the desk while using the textbook
- Faculty may check out textbooks for a class, however books must be returned at the end of class.
- If materials are not returned after six weeks replacement charges and a hold are sent to the Accounting Department.
- The Library accepts payments for fines but replacement costs must be paid in the Accounting Department
- If a patron claims to have returned an item for which they have received an overdue notice, it becomes a “claims returned” item. The Library will conduct a search for the item in question, but if after 3 weeks the item has not been found in the Library or returned the patron is responsible for the cost of the item.
Cell Phones
Cell phone ringers must be switched off in the Library and, as a courtesy to Library patrons and staff, phone conversations must be conducted outside the Library.
Computer Use Policy
The Library has 23 computers with internet access, online catalog, and Microsoft Office software. One additional computer is reserved for catalog searches only. The following policies apply to all Library users:
- Use of the computers for non-school-related activities, such as email, chat rooms and games is discouraged. The Library staff reserves the right to prohibit these activities.
- Use of computers in ways that violate the AIP policy on protection from a hostile environment for students, faculty and staff is prohibited
- Personal computer disks and jump/flash drives are the responsibility of Library users.
- Computers may be reserved in advance by faculty for classroom assignments, though not to the exclusion of other Library users.
- Food or beverages are not permitted at computer work stations.
- It is the users' responsibility to maintain awareness of any copyright statements and to refrain from violating U.S. copyright laws. The copyright law is posted near computer workstations.
- Patrons may not load personal or outside software of any kind onto AIP Library computers.
- Patrons may not change the configuration of AIP Library computers in any way.
- Patrons may not carry out unauthorized transfer or copying of copyrighted software.
- Patrons may not deliberately perform acts which are wasteful of computing resources, or which unfairly monopolize resources to the exclusion of others.
- Patrons may not view pornographic images, or other materials deemed inappropriate.
Violations of the following Library policies may subject the patron to loss of Library privileges, AIP disciplinary procedures, and/or criminal action. In addition, violators may be held responsible for any damage to Library computers.
Theft and Vandalism
Damaging, destroying or stealing any Library property is a serious offense, and patrons caught engaged in these activities will be subject to school disciplinary action as well as the appropriate penalties outlined below in the Library Code of the State of Pennsylvania.
Damaging Library Property
Anyone who shall willfully cut, mutilate, mark or otherwise injure any book, pamphlet, magazine, newspaper, manuscript, map or other property belonging in or to or on deposit with the State Library or any local Library which is established or maintained under any law of this Commonwealth or the Library of any university, college or educational institution chartered by the Commonwealth or the Library of any public school or any branch reading room, deposit station or agency operated in connection therewith, shall be deemed to be guilty of a misdemeanor, and may be prosecuted for said offense before any court of competent jurisdiction and, upon conviction thereof, shall be liable to pay a fine of not more than twenty-five dollars ($25) and costs of prosecution or to undergo imprisonment in the county jail for a period not exceeding fifteen days, or both, at the discretion of the court, the said fine when collected to be for the use of the said Library against which the aforesaid offense was committed.
